- It has 286,000 miles on it
- It is 17 years old
- The driver and passenger front doors don't open from the outside
- The hood can only be opened by a long piece of wire attached to the latch and is wrapped around the hood ornament.
- The glove compartment can only stay closed with a child-proof lock attached with gorilla glue to prevent the beeping and interior light from killing the battery when the box is open
- The driver door window can only be opened by pulling on it a certain way and winding it down with the other hand, with a touch of pixie dust for luck
- The heater/AC usually doesn't work, leaving you to steam/frost the interior windows/windsheild (a magical touch to the dashboard can sometimes remedy this)
- Any accidental locking of the doors results in calling your friendly neighborhood locksmith
- The coolant has a slow but steady leak
You Know You're Poor When...
- You gladly accept (and actually requested) this car for free from graduating med school friends last year, as the 3rd time to be given away to the next generation of med students.
You Know You're Not Alone As Starving Students When...
- You send out a mass email offering that car with all it's quirks for free to all your friends and receive an eager acceptance in less than 3 hours.
- And they're SO Excited to have this piece of metal.
Many thanks to the O'Briens and many wishes of luck to the Egberts.
So long Buick Regal. We will miss you. Okay, maybe not.
(my apologies for the lack of a picture--somehow this car escaped our camera's desire for capturing memories for our posterity...)

I even have memories of that car. I guess I know that I am getting old when I have known the 4 medical schools families that have had the car. We still have my clunker with many of the same problems. She is still running though and is great on the snow. I guess will keep her for a little while longer.
So where is the new car?
that is so funny.
Hi Cheney family,
How are you doing? Got your newsletter and I wanted to drop in and say hi.
Oh, I am so nervous for the Egberts!
So funny. So sad though that you have no picture to show your posterity . . . or us. :) You need to take a picture of it sometime when you are over at Brittany's house. :)
Let's see the old and the new! Do you have a new?
Oh wow, I'm a little nervous for the new owners as well. :) So do you have another car yet?
Oh boy...sounds like a lot of fun memories for you guys. :)
You are hilarious! I'm so saddened that you broke up with the "REGAL" so quickly. ha ha. I will have to send you a pic. when I get back to TX. I have a great one with our kayak on top even :).
P.S. I totally won the prize hands down for the best story at our girls weekend and it was all thanks to our little friend Regal.
You know it's also a clunker when you get pulled over, can't roll down the window or open the door to talk to the officer, while not being able to turn on your lights or off your wipers while the officer is getting ready to get the breathalizer ready with the certainty I must be drunk :)ha ha. Miss you tons. Glad you got a taker on it. Good luck Brittanie.
Chelsea-you crack me up! So you got rid of the clunker? Did ya get a new car??
